Purpose

Statewide partnership comprised of the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA) and high-need school districts, including HISD; designed to increase the number of bilingual and English as a Second Language teachers placed in high-need Title 1 schools

Recruitment

75 interns during grant period

Eligibility

  • Certification Areas – bilingual and ESL
  • Be accepted into the HISD Alternative Certification Program (apply at http://dept.houstonisd.org/acp/applicant/acp4a.htm)

Benefits

  • Reimbursement of UST tuition required for HISD-ACP program
  • Reimbursement for testing and certification fees – $410
  • Reimbursement for materials (textbooks) – $400
  • Platicas (professional development) stipend – $200
  • Possible scholarship to attend La Semana Early Childhood Conference

Commitments

  • Remain a teacher-of-record at an HISD high-need school for 3 full school years
  • Teach bilingual or ESL students during the three year commitment
  • Attend four Platicas (professional development) hosted by IDRA during internship year
